Ten Steps to Being a Good Neighbour

Visions in the Cloud – November 07

Welcome

This week our staff were preparing and packing for the move to the Community Hub on Friday, November 5th. Given this priority for staff and some key volunteers,we offer a service prepared by our Region for congregations to use during COVID.

Rev. Audrey Lounder, past president of our Fundy St Lawrence Dawning Waters Region offers the reflection and invites us to consider what wisdom the story of Noah and the Great Flood offers us in this time of COVID.

All Hallow's Eve - All Saints & All Souls Day: Lifting the Thin Veil Between Heaven and Earth

Join us for a special storytelling service. All Hallow's Eve (Halloween) begins a trinity of special days in the Christian faith. On All Saints Day & All Souls Day we remember 'the faithful departed' - all those who have left their mark on us and in this world.

We will honour the names and memory of four individuals from our Visions family, as well as the memory of our own special loved ones. Who is someone from your life, whose memory you cherish and whose life made a difference for you? Together, we will pray a blessing.

Since it is Halloween, bring along your own carved pumpkin and place your candle in it when you join in our on-line service.

Listening for Autumn's Spiritual Teachings

Are you enjoying the fall colours?

Autumn has much to teach us about the rhythm of our spirit, and about the way of Jesus and the call of faith (John 12: 23-26).

Gather a few colourful leaves, light your candle, and join us for some soul time.

"Live Your Mission"

Our generosity transforms lives. On this World Food Day Sunday we consider how our gifts to Mission & Service and local community food ministries help end hunger.

The Wisdom of Matthew 13:1-9 (Parable of the Sower) affirms, together, we are "daring a difference, one act of kindness at a time."

Gratitude and Anxiety

It’s Thanksgiving week, and we have much to be thankful for in our lives. Yet news of Covid restrictions and being unable to be with our friends and family has us anxious and dispirited. How can we show gratitude when our lives are turned upside down? We turn to Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6: 25-33 for wisdom.

"Songs for the Journey"

Everyday we make a journey in faith. Sometimes this journey takes us into the interior landscape of our minds and hearts, sometimes outward into the world. This week we turn to a small collection of Psalms known as the Pilgrimage Psalms (Psalms 120-134). We consider the well known verses of Psalm 121, reminding us that wherever we find ourselves on this journey of life, God is, indeed, holding our lives.

In God Alone

In this age where the news seems to be bad and getting worse, where do we place our faith? This week, we examine two Wisdom Psalms that bolster our faith and our trust in God. We take comfort in the knowledge God's Love is always holding us.

"Singing the Blues"

There are times in our lives when we feel disoriented, we lose our bearings, our heart is heavy, our faith wavers. Psalms of Lament honour these moments with a song. This week we continue our exploration of the Psalms and consider how the spiritual practice of lament nurtures compassionate awareness for self and others. Even when we are 'singing the blues', God's Love keeps holding us.

We've been using some music by Richard Bruxvoort Colligan in this series. Listen to his piece "Desert Blues", a contemporary lament psalm, here:
