Good-bye Daphna

When we think about Visions we think about Music, which means we think about you Daphna. The congregation has created a list of our favourite Daphna memories, for you to take with you on your new journey...

  1. Hi Daphna. Sorry to see you go but happy that you have such a wonderful hubby and family with whom to share your future, whatever it may hold.
Visions has supplied the best and happiest music of any church I’ve attended. You make my heart happy when you play.
    Good luck and God bless.

  2. Well, where do I begin…my first impression of Daphna and her fabulous piano playing was noticing how she and the piano are one. There are people who play music and people who become music. Daphna is pure music! And let’s not forget that in any given piece she is likely to strike almost every key on the piano! As a musical minister and as well as a singer, I was enthralled by her ability to transpose (change keys). Many times within a set. I truly loved building these musical sets with her and working with someone who knows how to build the energy up and down to work with the ebb and flow of the spiritual movement of liturgy.
Daphna Words: Fun, Fabulous, Generous, Talented but more importantly gift-embodied and gift-sharing.
I am grateful for the 3 years I worked with Daphna. Many blessing of all good things to you Daphna!!

  3. I thoroughly enjoyed Daphna’s playing before the Saturday services at the First Church of the Nazarene. It felt like the members were treated to our own personal concert, week after week. Daphna always comes across as being so relaxed, yet has such quick reactions. I love her ‘musical zingers’ when someone made a funny comment or a boo boo. Daphna was also great with Visions’ handbell choir. She managed to make our small, inexperienced handbell choir sound amazingly good – and it was done with such patience and grace. Visions is fortunate to have had your musical leadership – thank you so much!

  4. Daphna’s time at Visions has been a journey of rediscovery of talents for me and it all came about with her encouragement. She has a certain way of discovering and developing peoples musical abilities. I hadn’t played the guitar for years but at some point she discovered I did know how to play a few chords and that was it. I had to play with her. I must echo Christine’s comments about her ability to transpose and adapt to who ever she is playing with. She even came up with chords on the sheet music for me on songs that didn’t have them. Next thing you know, covid hit and our recording songs began and she then had me singing and even adding harmony. We have become close friends over the years and I know that friendship will continue. Thank You Daphna and best wishes always.

  5. Best wishes to you and yours Daphna for the future. Will miss all your musical talents as well as your warm and caring personality.

  6. I have to say that Daphna’s music was a highlight of every service I attended. From making a hymn “Rock” with the occasional sliding run on the keys, to being able to continue the music with one hand while directing the choir or conducting the other players (drummers, guitars, banjos, tin flutes, hand bells, tambourines, etc) , or even taking communion with out missing a beat, she is truly a master musician. Occasionally she would play the odd comical note to add her opinion for any comments made from the pulpit while never leaving her chair. Her music was always played with such emotion and fluidity that it drew you in and filled you with emotions, some times a smile, sometimes a tear, but everyone always felt better after listening to her play. Her spirit shone through every note, thank you so much for sharing your gift with us.

  7. Daphna, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to you play the piano and especially your baby grand piano in the recording of services during covid. The arrangements you did with the choir were much appreciated. You will be missed. Wishing you the very best in your retirement with John!

  8. Daphna,
I know without a doubt that you will miss my attempts to record on my phone. If you become too melancholy feel free to send some music and I will record it for you!!
It has been wonderful to have you on the bench. So many wonderful musical treats we were given. You know where I live, so please visit some time. Love and blessings for you and John.

  9. Thanks for the memories, Daphna! I will miss you lots and it was an honour and a privilege to collaborate in making music with you over the years! Wishing you all the best in your new endeavours and sending love. 🙂
    Regards,
    Ainsley

  10. Oh, how your gifts and talents will be missed by our family! Playing, leading, accompanying, transposing, and just oozing music from your pores, you brought light and joy and emotion to every service. You have also been so encouraging to Charlotte as she develops her voice and ear…and the generous blessing of your flute in her little hands fills our home with music! All the best as you embark on new musical and family adventures (maybe some rest!?).xo xo xo

  11. Its been a real treat getting to know you and John these past years with Visions. I will miss your musical talents and how you were able to bring the best out of the members of the congregation. You were able to nurture that talent and provide us all with so many great memories.

You will always be a part of the Visions’ Family and we hope to see you relaxing in the “regular seats” with those of us with less talent 😀

  12. Daphna your smile will be missed almost as much as your wonderful music. I am thankful for getting to know you.
Please know that only your encouragement got me singing again. I had missed that piece of my life and didn’t have the courage to try again until you and your gentle coaxing. Thank you for never giving up and sharing your musical ministry with everyone.
Best wishes for all your future endeavors.

  13. Thank you for the beautiful music and for sharing your immense talent with us. You provided the soundtrack to many wonderful moments at Visions. You will be missed. Wishing you all the best.

  14. “Thank you for the music…” Daphna, so many people have remarked on your talent and Visions has been blessed by your creativity and joy for the piano. Thank you for your openness to always try something different, whether it was how we wove music into the various parts of the liturgy, or tone chimes with the young children on Christmas Eve(!), or the way you could transpose and create medleys. You are always open to trying the unusual, and doing it with fun. I especially appreciate how you rose to the occasion during COVID, and managed to keep so many singers and instrumentalists involved and contributing to our on-line recordings. God bless you. Perhaps you will be able to convince John to slow down some in the coming months 🙂

  15. Thank you for sharing your gift of music with our church family. The beauty of your skill of making music come alive filled my soul. I will miss that. We wish you and John the very best as you journey forward. Embrace the future and all it holds. Blessings Karen & Ross

  16. Best wishes Daphna.
Thanks for sharing your music with us.
I’m sure your fingers will “ tickle the ivories” for a long time into the future.
All the best to you and John.

  17. I can’t even imagine Church services and other occasions without you at the piano Daphna! We have enjoyed so much your
amazing talent, spontaneity, sparkly personality and quick wit. We hope you enjoy your new freedom, but that you will still be part of our congregation and our lives as well. Best of luck in your new role, and much love!

  18. Daphna, I will miss YOU. I will miss your encouragement , your sense of humor, your daring to try something new ,your talents you shared with joy, and your faith. You never ceased to amaze me with your ideas. One of my favorite memories was when you took your talents on the road, and I tagged along, and we had our first “outside” gig. I am sure that if Covid had not happened, we would have gone on to a full time tour, and likely an East Coast Music Award. I am blessed to call you friend, Thank you for being you, and sharing with a open heart every day.
