05-12 Community Hub Update

The construction site at 140 Joyce Avenue continues to be a busy place!
Have you had the chance to drive by? Here are a couple recent updates.

The rainy weather is slowing down the installation of siding on the building. It is now complete on the front of the apartments, and the staging is around the side with some siding already installed on the lower reach of the back.

You’ll notice that some siding has been installed around the front door on the Hub side. Hopefully, some sunny days will prevail soon. Inside, the drywall will likely be complete on the 2nd floor of the Hub by the end of this week or early next.

Christian Family Sunday & Mother's Day

Letters From a Time of Pandemic to Visions' Family of Faith

What letters or messages of encouragement, gratitude, challenge might we offer to each other as 'church' during these days and months of pandemic isolation, restrictions and separation? We turn our attention to a part of Paul's story that is woven behind the scenes, stories and speeches, which fill the pages of the Book of Acts (Acts 23-26).

Paul wrote letters of encouragement to the early Christian communities he visited on his travels. This week some of Visions friends will share some messages with us. Apart, together, during this time of pandemic, we encourage one another in faith. We will also have a photo story from our 10th Anniversary celebration last week.

Who's Sitting On Our Windowsills? The Story of Eutychus

Our theme series, Acts Now! Stories of Making Church Outside a Building, continues with this story about youth and is relevant to anyone who may be 'sitting on the margins'. How will we welcome all into our life of worship and prayer and be a place of radical belonging?

04-22 Community Hub Update

The construction site at 140 Joyce Avenue continues to be a busy place!
Have you had the chance to drive by? Here are a couple recent updates.

The outside of the building is starting to get some finishings! Stone facade was added this past week on the front of the apartment side in two places. Delivery of the vinyl siding is expected soon.

The place we notice big changes are the apartments inside. Dry wallers are busy taping and crack filling walls.

Construction on the hub side is more complex and at various stages. Additional insulation is being installed this week. Staging fills the multi-purpose room as work continues on the duct work and dry walling the upper walls/ceiling area. This is a big space! Throughout the Hub, walls are framed and interior door frames are installed. By mid-May drywall should be complete on the Hub side.

The reception/waiting area will be a lovely space to host our Conversation Cafe on Sundays. The steel framed walls will be glass, so it will create an open, welcoming space as you enter the building.

Overall, construction on the apartment side is further ahead then the hub, but we are still predicting a completion date of August 1st.

Making the Unknown God...Known...In New Ways

We live in a world that no longer 'speaks Christian'. How do we speak of our faith in ways that welcome stranger and neighbour in love and respect, while sharing the 'good news' of the Gospel of Jesus? This week we read the story of Paul's visit to Athens as he finds 'common ground' with people there.

  • You can find the story in Acts 17:16-34

Turning the World (and the Church) Upside Down!

The early followers of Jesus were accused of 'turning the world upside down' with their message of good news. In our day, too, the gospel values of peace, justice and God's radical love for all people can clash with our consumer culture's values.

How will we 'turn the world upside down' with the Love of God?

Visions in the Cloud – Easter

April 4, 2021

Easter Sunday: "Early on the first day..."

Enter the Mystery of Easter with us.

Experience the Story again of "Early on the first day"

This Easter we wonder with those first visitors to the empty tomb what new reality is dawning for us as we await a post-pandemic world. (John 20:1-18)

We will share Communion as part of our Easter celebration. Please prepare food for yourself: a piece of bread, roll, maybe a hot cross bun; and a cup of juice - perhaps grape or cranberry - or wine, with or without alcohol. We will bless the elements together with prayer and song.
