Here's a video of Rev. Shawn at the Community Hub with an update (click on the image)

Highlights:

Construction delays during July have postponed the opening of the building by a month.

  • The bulk of the work to be finished is on the first floor of the Hub
  • Drywall installers are on-site as of yesterday after a few weeks delay
  • The front entrance needed redesign due to elevation levels
  • Installation of flooring, fixtures and cabinetry will continue once drywall is completed

We now anticipate August 31st completion

06-09 Community Hub Update

Work on the garden area of the Community Hub continued this week. Over the weekend a few people picked rock from the area. On Tuesday, the ground was tilled to loosen the soil. John Russell is hoping to source some delivery of compost and get seed sown by the weekend!
John was interviewed as part of last week's Spirit Gathering and talked about the measures being taken to remediate the soil and improve organic matter with some different crops this summer/fall.

Meanwhile, our Visions New Ministry Team is meeting with and interviewing other churches in the area of the Hub. We've identified 9 congregations and are speaking with them about their experience of ministry in this part of Moncton, what programs they offer, and seeking to build relationship with these other churches. The interviews are also part of the Community Hub Engagement Team's learning about the community.

There's more colour on the Hub side of the building this week as siding continues to be installed around the area of the Multi-Purpose Room.

Last week, John Russell was onsite helping to prepare the soil in the area where trees and gardens will eventually be planted. John writes

"We got the tile drains in, loosened the soil down to 60 cm and got most of the rocks and concrete slabs picked and hauled away. I was really happy with how the ripping seemed to perform. I think it looks really good and ready for a light tilling to break up the compacted clods of subsoil and get in some buckwheat seed (and hopefully compost)".

Last fall, John worked with the site engineers to modify the proposed storm-water retention to include farmable slopes for water retention into the design. Tune in to our June 6 Spirit Gathering and hear John describe what's happening to improve the soil quality and create arable land at the Hub.

This week we walked on the floor of the Multi-purpose room and you can see a video tour of the room! Watch by clicking the picture Great Room below.

The staging is now removed and crews are installing drywall on the lower wall. This room is a wide-open space, just under 2000 sq.ft, is where Visions will host our weekly Spirit Gathering.

Also included in this week's update is a photo of the Children's Program & Small Meeting Room (now dry-walled), kitchen and the upstairs storage closet for our long term storage.

Great progress with construction inside these last few weeks!

Dry wall of the second floor and installation of door frames is almost complete, which you will notice in a few photos of the upper hallway and a view into an office.
You can see the duct work in the ceiling of the Multi-purpose room, and the light from the upper windows. We are looking forward to seeing the room once the staging is removed and work begins on the walls below.

The elevator lift is now installed! This ensures accessibility to the offices and work spaces on the second floor.

Downstairs, there are photos of the electrical room, views down the hallway of the first floor and a view into the reception area looking south to the front door. There's lots of construction materials lying around.

Brian Affleck was on site this week attending to some of the AV wiring and installation for the teaching kitchen. Thanks for your work, Brian, on this project!

Finishing work has begun on the apartment side. Flooring is laid and the Kitchen cabinets are being installed. We can begin to imagine the finished look of the apartments!

The rainy weather is slowing down the installation of siding on the building. It is now complete on the front of the apartments, and the staging is around the side with some siding already installed on the lower reach of the back.

You’ll notice that some siding has been installed around the front door on the Hub side. Hopefully, some sunny days will prevail soon. Inside, the drywall will likely be complete on the 2nd floor of the Hub by the end of this week or early next.

04-22 Community Hub Update

The outside of the building is starting to get some finishings! Stone facade was added this past week on the front of the apartment side in two places. Delivery of the vinyl siding is expected soon.

The place we notice big changes are the apartments inside. Dry wallers are busy taping and crack filling walls.

Construction on the hub side is more complex and at various stages. Additional insulation is being installed this week. Staging fills the multi-purpose room as work continues on the duct work and dry walling the upper walls/ceiling area. This is a big space! Throughout the Hub, walls are framed and interior door frames are installed. By mid-May drywall should be complete on the Hub side.

The reception/waiting area will be a lovely space to host our Conversation Cafe on Sundays. The steel framed walls will be glass, so it will create an open, welcoming space as you enter the building.

Overall, construction on the apartment side is further ahead then the hub, but we are still predicting a completion date of August 1st.

It's been a few weeks since we've had a peak inside the Hub building.

Progress on the apartment side includes insulation and installation of shower/bathtub fixtures.

The second story concrete floor has been poured on the Hub side and the walls are framed. The main stairway is built and the elevator lift shaft is framed, ready for installation.
Staging fills the entire multi-purpose room to enable the installation of duct work and the steel beams and framing for the room dividers above the ceiling.

We are still on schedule for August 1st occupancy!
